The San Carlos region of Costa Rica is a ranching community. Main source of income is cattle farming and milking. The land is hilly, laced with rivers and streams. The hills and mountains are part pasture and part rainforest. The looming presence of the active Arenal Volcano is visible from most of the region. It sputters and spits lava out the top almost constantly. There are many other tourist attractions in the area for non-riders. Including rainforest hiking, zip lines, whitewater rafting, just to name a few.
