How the West was once ... and still is at Grapevine Canyon Ranch!

Grapevine Canyon Ranch in Pearce / Arizona German website

We are an intimate guest ranch where the emphasis is on horseback riding and ranch activities on thousands of acres of spectacular mountain country.

North America > USA > Arizona > Pearce

Our area is exceptionally beautiful and rich in Western history. We are in the heart of legendary Chiricahua Apache country, near several gold and silver mining ghost towns, about an hour's drive from Old Mexico, Tombstone, Bisbee and other places of historical interest.

The ranch is nestled among groves of oak and manzanita trees at a perfect 5,000 ft elevation. The Dragoon Mountains offer a world of hidden canyons, lofty ridges, old Indian trails and endless vistas.

Wildlife abounds in the mountains, canyons and meadows surrounding the ranch. On the trail you might see deer, javalina, jack-rabbits and coyotes. Watch for tracks of the more elusive bobcat, ringtail cat, raccoon and mountain lion. Quail, dove, roadrunners and cardinals are frequent visitors and high above the trail you can see a variety of hawks, owls and eagles as well as meadow birds.

The Arizona sky puts on quite a show at sunrise and at sunset. At night, the display of stars is spectacular!

Excursions:

Our guests are offered the opportunity to have the horses trailered to two exciting locations every week.

The Chiricahua National Monument, called “The Land of Standing-Up Rocks” by the Apaches, is an inactive volcanic range rising to over nine thousand feet. The range is an extraordinary area of striking geological features and enormous biodiversity. Our guests ride to Balancing Rock (7,000 ft) to have lunch and experience four different ecological regions on their way up there.

The all day ride to Old Fort Bowie offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. Guests ride the old Butterfield Trail to see the ruins of the fort that commemorates the bitter conflict between the Chiricahua Apaches and the U.S. military. The fort is the site of the historic Bascom Affair, a wagon train massacre and the battle of Apache Pass.

Both rides are led by our own wranglers who share their insights into the history of the region and each particular area’s people, events and stories.
